About

The Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport is a proposed airport development serving the city of Ado-Ekiti in Ekiti State. The project was initially rejected by the Nigerian Government, citing the project would conflict with plans to upgrade four airports to international standards. In 2015, Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose revisited the project, announcing plans to establish an airport for the state and commissioned the Lands and Housing Directorate to start a survey for an appropriate site. The proposed development has received State Council of Traditional Rulers approval in Sep-2015. The Ekiti State government agreed to include construction of New Ekiti Airport in its 2017 budget. Construction commenced on 18-Oct-2019.

Oct-2025. Ekiti State's Government announced the Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport received approval from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority to commence scheduled commercial operations, effective 04-Oct-2025 for an initial period of six months. The interim operational permit will enable the airport to commence the certification process to obtain a three year aerodrome operating permit. The airport is authorised to operate during daylight hours under visual flight rules. Work is underway to install an instrument landing system.

Jan-2025. Ekiti State's Governor Biodun Oyebanji confirmed New Ekiti Airport received a six month licence to handle non-scheduled services from the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority on 13-Dec-2024. Mr Oyebanji said the airport is "completed and ready for operation", adding: "This period of six months is for the airport to test its systems and prepare for full operation" from 15-Jun-2025.

Dec-2024. New Ekiti Airport received approval from the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to commence non-scheduled flight operations, effective 15-Dec-2024. The approval of the non-scheduled operations under visual flight rules is for a six month period to 15-Jun-2025.
