Jan-2024. Nigeria's Ebonyi State Commissioner for Aviation and Transport Technology Ngozi Obichukwu said Ebonyi Chuba Okadigbo International Airport will commence full operations by May-2024, following the completion of runway rehabilitation works.

Nov-2023. Ebonyi State's Commissioner for Aviation and Technology Ngozi Obichukwu stated preliminary works commenced for the rehabilitation of Ebonyi International Airport's runway. The state government allocated NGN13.75 billion (USD17.1 million) for the project, which is expected to be complete within eight months.

Sep-2023. Ebonyi State's Government approved more than NGN13 billion for runway rehabilitation at Ebonyi International Airport. The runway rehabilitation contract was awarded to Infrastructure Development Company and the project is expected to be complete in six to eight months.

27-Apr-2023. Ebonyi State's Governor David Umahi announced Air Peace operated the first test flights at Ebonyi International Airport on 27-Apr-2023. The airline operated the flights from Abuja and Lagos using 80 seat Embraer aircraft. Mr Umahi reported Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari will formally inaugurate Ebonyi Airport in early May-2023.

25-Apr-2023. Ebonyi State's Governor David Umahi stated Air Peace will operate the first test flights at Ebonyi International Airport on 27-Apr-2023. Mr Umahi said the airline will operate the flights from Abuja and Lagos using 80 seat aircraft. Mr Umahi reported Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari will formally inaugurate Ebonyi Airport in early May-2023.

21-Apr-2023. Ebonyi State's Special Assistant to the Governor on Infrastructural Development Frank Ngwu stated flight testing at Ebonyi International Airport is expected to commence in late Apr-2023. Mr Ngwu said the airport will feature "the single largest terminal building in Nigeria" and "the single biggest apron in Nigeria". He said the airport will primarily handle cargo aircraft and will be able to accommodate "the biggest aircraft in the world".

Nov-2021. Ebonyi State's Commissioner for Information Uchenna Orji stated the Ebonyi International Airport project is more than 60% complete.

Aug-2020. Nigeria's Ebonyi State Governor David Umahi reported Ebonyi International Airport will commence operations by 2022.

Jan-2020. Ebonyi's Governor David Umahi stated construction of a new airport in the state will be complete in 18 months.

Sep-2019. Federal Government of Nigeria approved the Ebonyi State Government's request to construct a new international airport in Abakaliki.

Aug-2018. Nigeria's Governor of Ebonyi David Umahi promised to commence development of a new airport project "for my people" in the Ebonyi region in early 2019, stating: "There is nothing we say we would do in this government that we cannot do". He added: "The airport we will build may not be the biggest airport in the country, but it will be the most beautiful".
