About
Dara Sakor International Airport is a proposed airport development to serve a coastal resort in Koh Kong Province. Tianjin Union Development Group (UDG) secured a 99-year exclusive concession in 2008 to develop a 600ha land plot. UDG plans to construct a Cambodia-Chinese Investment and Development Zone in the region, including a seaside resort, free trade zone, shipping port and a new international airport. Tianjin Union is expected to develop a facility capable of handling 10 million passengers p/a and wide-body aircraft. The airport completed construction in Jun-2021 and is scheduled to be operational by Nov-2024. It added the terminal building will be capable of handling passenger movements of up to 500,000.
Nov-2024. Cambodia's State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA) spokesperson Sinn Chanserey Vutha reported Dara Sakor International Airport is scheduled to commence operations in late Nov/early Dec-2024. Mr Vutha noted there "may not be any major flights yet" as the airport gradually opens to commercial operations.
Sep-2024. Dara Sakor International Airport tested flight engineering and calibration on 29/30-Sep-2024 to prepare for domestic operations in late Nov-2024. The test was conducted for flight checks, air navigation equipment, radio communication with pilots and other technical parts. The airport is 100% completed and is technically sufficient to operate domestic flights.
Jul-2024.Cambodia's State Secretary of Civil Aviation (SSCA) Minister Mao Havannall stated Dara Sakor International Airport will commence domestic operations in Aug-2024. Construction of the airport is almost complete and the first phase of domestic flights will be for 2B aircraft-charter flights. The SSCA also discussed procedures to obtain certification for the airport to gradually commence international operations in the future.
Nov-2023. Cambodia's State Secretary of Civil Aviation (SSCA) Minister Mao Havannall reported construction of Dara Sakor International Airport is in its final stage. The airport will be able to accommodate widebody aircraft, including Boeing 777s and A340s.
May-2023. Cambodia's State Secretariat of Civil Aviation spokesman Sinn Chansereyvutha said the opening of Dara Sakor International Airport was delayed as the developer is yet to complete development and prepare relevant safety documentation . The airport was scheduled to open in mid 2023.
Apr-2022. Cambodia's State Secretariat of Civil Aviation spokesperson Sin Chansereyvutha reported Dara Sakor International Airport commenced flight testing from 19-Apr-2022 to 26-Apr-2022. Mr Chansereyvutha added the airport is due to conduct flight trials in Jul-2022 but operational delays have meant the airport's launch will be "slightly" behind schedule.
Nov-2021. Dara Sakor International Airport Construction Company representatives reported the airport is due for flight trials in early 2022. The company added construction is 95% complete and the airport will be ready for commercial operations in mid 2022.
Sep-2021. Cambodia's State Secretariat of Civil Aviation Mao Havannall reported Dara Sakor International Airport may likely be finished by Oct-2021, with a test launch expected later in 2021.
Jun-2021. Cambodia's State Secretariat of Civil Aviation confirmed construction of Dara Sakor International Airport has been completed and the airport is expected to be operational by the end of 2021.
Jan-2020. Cambodia's Government approved the relocation of the planned Koh Kong International Airport to provide the greenfield project with more space to accommodate additional developments. Instead of the original 400ha site earmarked in Khemarak Phoumin, the airport will now be developed on a 600ha site in Mondul Seima district's Bak Khlang commune.
Nov-2019. Cambodia's Civil Aviation Minister Mao Havanall said Koh Kong International Airport, also known as Dara Sakor International Airport, will be completed by 2022. The airport is being developed by China based Union Development Group (UDG) and is designed to handle Boeing 777, A340 and equivalent sized aircraft. UDG was awarded a 99 year concession to develop and operate the airport in 2008.
Jun-2017. Koh Kong International Airport development project is scheduled to commence construction in Jan-2018. The entire project is estimated to cost USD500 million, with the first phase to cost between USD300 million and USD350 million.
Sep-2016. Cambodia’s Koh Kong Province confirmed it will receive a new international airport capable of accommodating 10 million passengers p/a. The project was awarded to Tianjin Union Development Group (UDG) who is also working on othertourism development worth USD3.8 billion. UDG spokesperson Bella Zhang stated "geological survey and initial design work has been concluded… construction is ready to go". UDP plans to acquire a partner to jointly invest in the project.
