About

Dalian Jinzhouwan International Airport is an airport construction project being built to serve the cities of Dalian, Jinzhou and the surrounding areas of western Liaoning province in northeast China. Dalian International Airport Co Ltd is building the airport on a 20.87 sq km artificial island off the coast of Dalian with a total cost of CNY26.3 billion (USD4.3 billion).

In May-2005, a site selection for the new airport was set for the Jinzhou Bay area, with land reclamation commencing in 1Q2012. The development will be in phases, with the first phase to include the construction of two runways; one 3600m x 70m and one 3600m x 60m, to be complete by end-2018. Also included in phase one is the construction of a 200,000 sqm terminal with capacity for 20 million passengers p/a. Phase two of the project will see the construction of one runway and an additional 200,000 sqm terminal. Upon full completion, the airport will have four runways and capacity for 70 million passengers p/a.

The airport is slated to become one of the world's biggest airports constructed using land reclamation and will be capable of handling up to Airbus A380-size aircraft. The airport is being built to coincide Dalian's existing Zhoushuizi Airport reaching full capacity within the next five years.

Nov-2019. CAAC stated the new Dalian Jinzhouwan International Airport is planned to commence construction work in 2021 and is slated for completion and operation by 2025. The airport is designed as a category 4F airport with two runway and 500,000sqm terminal with capacity of 43 million passengers and 550,000 tonnes of cargo p/a. The airport targets 53 million passengers p/a by 2035 and 70 million passengers p/a by 2050.
