Apr-2025. India's Union Minister of Civil Aviation Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu announced the Ministry of Civil Aviation authorised the construction of Parandur Airport in Tamil Nadu.
Sep-2024. India's Environment Ministry authorised Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation Limited to conduct an environment impact assessment and environment management plan for the development of an airport in Parandur.
Aug-2024. India's Tamil Nadu State Government plans to launch a tender to find a concessionaire to develop an airport in Parandur between Jan-2025 and Mar-2025
May-2024. India's Tamil Nadu State Government selected Aarvee Associates to prepare a project report for the proposed metro link from Poonamallee to the planned new airport in Parandur. The report will include projections of total track length, number of stations, total cost and passenger traffic.
Jan-2023. India's Tamil Nadu State Government submitted a site clearance application for a new airport in Parandur to India's Ministry of Civil Aviation. The government plans to invest INR200 billion (USD2.45 billion) towards the development, with the airport to include two runways and a cargo terminal, with capacity to handle 100 million passengers p/a.
Aug-2022. Tamil Nadu's Government selected a site at Parandur as its preferred option for the development of a new airport to serve Chennai. The site is located approximately 70km from Chennai International Airport. The state government will seek final approval for the site from India's Ministry of Civil Aviation.
Feb-2022. Tamil Nadu's Government reportedly selected Parandur, Pannur, Tiruporur and Padalam as potential sites for the construction of the airport. India's Minister for Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya Scindia said Tamil Nadu state government and the airport operator will need to select a site for the construction of Chennai's second airport. A feasibility study will also need to be completed for the project.
