Brasov-Ghimbav International Airport is an airport development project located in Romania’s Brașov County by the future A3 motorway. The airport will serve the city of Brasov and will be designed to handle medium-sized aircraft with a capacity of one million people per year.Plans exist for a 2820m by 60m runway, with the total cost of the airport estimated at EUR40 million (USD53.46 million).
Aug-2019. Romania's Brașov county awarded an ex VAT RON122.3 million (EUR25.9 million) contract to Romanian construction company Bog'Art srl for the design and construction of Brașov-Ghimbav International Airport's passenger terminal.
May-2019. Romania's Brasov County Council selected Constructii Sibiu for construction of a new 11,780sqm passenger terminal at Brasov-Ghimbav International Airport. Constructii Sibiu bid RON145.3 million (EUR30.5 million/USD34 million) for the contract, which runs over a 12 month period.
Jan-2019. Romania's Braşov County amended a RON136.1 million (EUR29.1 million/USD33.2 million) tender originally launched in Dec-2018 for construction of the Brasov-Ghimbav International Airport passenger terminal.
Sep-2018. Brasov County Council plans to issue a tender in Sep-2018 for the design and construction of the EUR22 million/USD25.4 million terminal at Brasov-Ghimbav International Airport. According to Brasov County Council President Adrian Vestea, the terminal will cover 11,000sqm over three levels and should be ready to open in 2020.
Jun-2018. Romania's Brasov County Council awarded a RON31.6 million (EUR6.8 million) contract to PORR Construct for construction of a segment of Brasov-Ghimbav International Airport runway, passenger boarding platforms and development of runway drainage infrastructure. Works are scheduled to be completed within a 110 day period. The council also plans to launch new tenders for construction of other airport components, including a passenger terminal, parking facilities and access points.
Mar-2018. Brasov-Ghimbav International Airport stated construction works may resume in Apr-2018, with six companies submitting offers for a EUR9.2 million/USD11.4 million construction tender for airport development projects. Projects include completion of sewage and lighting systems and aircraft roadworks. Brasov municipality plans to finalise construction of the passenger terminal and ATC tower in 2019, representing investment of EUR57 million/USD71 million.
Jan-2016. Brasov-Ghimbav International Airport revealed approval of a EUR5 million/USD5.4 million bank loan in order to continue construction works. The airport is designed to handle medium sized aircraft with an annual capacity of one million passengers. Only the runway is completed at the site, with a length of 2850m and a width of 45m.
