About
Barkol Airport, also known as Balikun Airport, is a planned 4C category airport to serve the Barköl Kazakh Autonomous County, Xinjiang, China. It is expected to have a 3000m x 45m runway and capacity to handle Boeing 737 and A320 equipment.
Mar-2022. China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) approved the feasibility study report for the Barkol Airport development project. The airport will be equipped with a 3000m x 45m runway, a 4000sqm passenger terminal and five aircraft parking stands. The project will require an estimated investment of CNY690 million (USD108.6 million) and the airport will be equipped to handle up to 300,000 passengers p/a. Works are expected to commence by the end of 2022.
Oct-2020. The Barkol Airport project has been submitted to China's State Council and Central Military Commission for approval.
Jan-2019. China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region reportedly plans to commence preliminary works for the development of nine new airports in 2019, including Zhaosu Airport, Yutian Airport, Barkol Airport and Alar Airport and airports in Taxkorgan, Bayanbulak, Hoboksar, Usu and Qitai.
Jul-2016. Xinjiang Civil Aviation Authority recently held site selection assessment on Balikun Airport.
