About

Abusa International Airport is a proposed airport development which will serve Bishoftu, Ethiopia.

Mar-2025. Ethiopian Airlines and African Development Bank signed an LoI to collaborate towards the USD7.8 billion Abusera International Airport development project. 

Aug-2024. Ethiopian Airlines awarded a consortium led by Dar Al-Handasah Consultants a technical advisory and consultancy contract for the design and supervision of a Mega Airport City at Abusera in Bishoftu city. The consortium will cover technical advisory, engineering, project management and construction supervision services for the project. The airport will be located 40km from Addis Ababa Bole International Airport (ADD) and will have capacity to handle 110 million passengers p/a, four times ADD's capacity. The airport city will include a 1.1 million sqm terminal, 126,190sqm of airline support facilities, over 100,00sqm of cargo and airport support facilities and two Code 4E parallel runways. The first phase of construction is scheduled for completion in 2029, with passenger handling capacity at 60 million p/a upon completion of the phase.
