Szczytno-Szymany (Mazury) International Airport is a former military airfield converted to handle civilian passenger services, located 10km from the city of Szczytno, in Northern Poland. The airport is currently inoperative and the airport operator, Porty Lotnicze Mazury-Szczytno, is in the process of upgrading its facilities, planning to have the airport operational by 2016. The airport expects to serve 80,000 passengers in its first year, with numbers to increase to 800,000 pax over the next 20 years. When the airport was active between 1996 and 2003, it received scheduled services from Warsaw and handled services during summer months to cities in Germany.
