General Servando Canales International Airport serves the Mexican border town of Matamoros, Tamaulipas State's second city and, together with the US city of Brownsville across the Rio Grande, the fourth largest metropolitan area on the US-Mexico border. The city is a regional manufacturing centre, benefting from a large presence of foreign-owned plants. The airport offers limited domestic connections, primarily to the capital Mexico city, and is operated by Aeropuertos y Servicios Auxiliares.
