Hamad International Airport commenced full operations on 27-May-2014, replacing the former Doha International Airport. The airport is the primary gateway to Qatar and the hub of national carrier, Qatar Airways. It is one of the largest airports in the region and features 40,000 square meters of combined retail, food and beverage facilities, extended with an airport hotel, lounges and other leisure facilities. Its dual runway system enables the handling of 100 aircraft per hour and 360,000 movements annually, approximately two and a half times more than the previous facility.
