VLM Airlines was a Dutch regional carrier based in Antwerp. Formerly a scheduled airline in its own right, VLM was acquired by Air France-KLM S.A. in Dec-2007. VLM began operating under the group's Irish CityJet regional airline brand from May-2009 onwards, with the VLM brand disappearing entirely in 2010. In Apr-2014, CityJet and VLM were acquired from Air France-KLM S.A. by the German company, INTRO Aviation. INTRO divested its stake to the carrier's management in Nov-2014. VLM operated as a wholly independently owned and operated airline from Jan-2015. VLM Airlines shut down it's subsidiary VLM Airlines BV in 2015, as part of a cost-reduction plan for Belgium. The carrier filed for bankruptcy protection in May-2016, and was granted special status by the Antwerp commercial court for a period of six months. However, VLM Airlines stated the temporary protection period would be insufficient to undertake a "sustainable" restructure programme. The carrier filed for bankruptcy on 22-Jun-2016 and suspended all service operations, with immediate effect.
SHS Antwerp Aviation acquired VLM Airlines and plans to relaunch the carrier as VLM Airlines Slovenia.
