Tigerair Mandala
About
Tigerair Mandala was a former Indonesian low-cost carrier based at Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. The carrier operated domestic and regional services with Airbus A320 equipment. Tigerair Mandala ceased operations on 01-Jul-2014 after its final Hong Kong-Denpasar service.
The carrier announced that its decision was based on overcapacity in the Indonesian aviation sector and increased operating costs due to depreciation of the rupiah. The airline reported its operations were loss-making since its relaunch in Apr-2012 and that the prevailing industry dynamics made it difficult for key shareholders to maintain financial support.
Tigerair Group stated the decision to pull out of Tigerair Mandala will allow it to focus on its turnaround strategy, including fleet consolidation, strategic alliances and an asset-light growth model. Tigerair Group stated Indonesia remains an important market for the group and it will maintain an active presence through Tigerair Singapore.
