TAP Express is a regional subsidiary of parent carrier, TAP Portugal. The parent operator introduced TAP Express as a new regional carrier that replaced it's wholly-owned subsidiary, Portugalia. The new venture is part of a operational strategy to better serve TAP Portugal's regional hub, Porto Francisco de Sa Airport. TAP Express operates scheduled domestic services, allowing TAP to increase capacity by 47% and the frequency of regional services. TAP Express operates with a 17 aircraft fleet, eight of which are ATR 72 operated by White Airways and nine Embraer 190s operated by Portugalia, both with TAP Express livery. According to TAP Portugal, TAP Express consolidates the commercial designation of the Portuguese airline and reinforces its identity, thus granting a more consistent brand and product. TAP Express commenced service operations on 27-Mar-2016.
