PAWA Dominicana
About
PAWA Domincana (Pan Am World Airways Dominicana) was a formerly defunct carrier that recommenced operations serving Aruba, Curacao, Saint Maarten, San Juan and La Habana from its base at Las Americas International Airport. The carrier ceased operations in Feb-2012 due to financial problems. Under a new five-year business plan, PAWA planned to resume services and serve the Dominican Republic. It has received permission to operate to Havana, and relaunched service operations on 15-Aug-2015, with services to Latin American destinations. PAWA Dominicana commenced twice daily Santo Domingo-Miami service on 16-Nov-2016, becoming the first Dominican carrier to offer flights to the US in over 20 years.
Dominican Republic Junta de Aviacion Civil suspended PAWA Dominicana's operations on 26-Jan-2018. Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (IDAC) director Alejandro Herrera reported the agency will definitively cancel Pawa Dominicana's air operator certificate (AOC) on 23-Jun-2019. The cancellation is due to unpaid aeronautical and airport fees.
