Avatar Airlines is a proposed start-up carrier that plans to adopt an ultra low-cost model. Avatar is based in Boca Raton, Florida and intends to launch services to San Francisco, Las Vegas McCarran, Honolulu, San Diego Int'l, Phoenix Sky Harbor, Dallas/Fort Worth, Miami Int'l, Orlando Int'l, Tampa Int'l, New York JFK, Philadelphia Int'l, Chicago O'Hare, Los Angeles Int'l and San Juan Luis Muñoz Marin.
Avatar hopes to raise USD300 million through a private placement memorandum to purchase aircraft and fund operations. Avatar is aiming to acquire thirty B747-400s, reconfigured with 539 seats in the main cabin and 42 business class seats. The aircraft exteriors will reportedly be developed into flying corporate billboards and the interiors will also feature advertisements.
Avatar traces its roots back to the now defunct Family Airlines which also planned to operate high-density LCC services between Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, and Newark in 1992. Three subsequent attempts to launch Avatar also failed.
