Amazon Prime Air

Virtual Carrier

IATA: n/a
ICAO: n/a

Amazon Prime Air is a virtual cargo carrier founded by Amazon Technologies Inc. The company was initially a logistics drone programme, with Amazon planning to deliver packages using custom unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV). However, FAA regulations regarding commercial UAV developments forced Amazon to review the Prime Air programme and led to the establishment of a virtual cargo carrier. Amazon acquired a fleet of Boeing 767F aircraft, and entered agreements with Atlas Air and ATSG to lease a further 40 freighters. ATSG’s airlines, ABX Air and Air Transport International, as well as Atlas Air Worldwide currently operate Boeing 767 Freighter services on behalf of Amazon. It plans to construct a centralised air hub at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport to support its fleet of Prime Air cargo aircraft.
