AirAsia China was a proposed low-cost carrier by AirAsia Group after an MoU was signed by Everbright Group, the Henan Government Working Group and the airline group to establish a new JV carrier. AirAsia China was planned to be based in Zhengzhou, the capital of Henan Province, China. The JV planned to invest in development of a dedicated LCC terminal at Zhengzhou Airport, surrounded by an aerotropolis which included an aviation academy and maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facilities. COMAC C919 service operations are up for consideration, as AirAsia China could potentially become the first foreign LCC to enter China. However, the LCC terminal development was abandoned in Aug-2018, and the MoU to establish AirAsia China lapsed.
