Air Congo is a proposed airline that planned to launch in early Dec-2021, a revised launch date has not been advised. The carrier will initially operate a fleet of 10 aircraft, including Dash 8-400s, Boeing 737s and two 787s. The Democratic Republic of the Congo's Government holds a 51% stake in Air Congo and Ethiopian Airlines holds 49%.
In Apr-2022, it was confirmed that Ethiopian Airlines will provide seven aircraft for Air Congo, enabling the launch of domestic and international services. Delivery of the aircraft may commence by Jul-2022.
In Jul-2022, Ethiopian Airlines chairman Girma Wake stated the airline hopes to finalise an agreement with the Democratic Republic of the Congo's Government by the end of 2022 regarding the establishment of Air Congo. Mr Wake said discussions are continuing regarding the signing of a management contract.
In Oct-2022, Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO Mesfin Tasew confirmed the airline signed a shareholder agreement and "other agreements" with the Democratic Republic of the Congo's Government for the establishment of Air Congo.
