Wataniya Airways cancels services to four cities; Comair increases services
Wataniya Airways, subsidiary of Kuwait National Airways (-3.8%), stated it would cancel services to four cities - Damascus, Amman, Manama and Jeddah from 05-Dec-2010 - and reduce frequency to Dubai due to market saturation.
Wataniya spokesman Jassim al Qames said "large capacity is flooding the Kuwaiti market from state subsidized carriers and driving prices down". The carrier will also reduce its fleet from seven A320s to four A320s and make staff cuts.
Comair Limited (0%), operator of British Airways in South Africa and kulula.com, stated (29-Nov-2010) British Airways will increase frequency on Durban-Cape Town sector from 17 to 22 times weekly. The carrier is the only premium airline operating on the route following the cancellation of South African Airways services in Oct-2010.
Middle East and African shares were mostly on the downturn on Monday (29-Nov-2010) with Royal Jordanian Airlines (-2.5%), Jazeera Airways (-1.7%), 1time (-1.2%) and Kenya Airways (-0.5%) down.
