About

Wataniya Airways was a Kuwaiti airline previously owned by Kuwait National Airways. Based in Kuwait City, Wataniya operated a network of Eastern European services from Kuwait Airport, with plans of expanding its route network with services to Indian subcontinent and Gulf cities. On 16-Mar-2011, the airline announced it has ceased operations due to the airline's "financial situation and regional unrest." Wataniya Airways planned to indemnify its losses and issue an IPO with the aim of increasing its capital to KWD24 million (USD85.2 million) and resuming operations. The airline relaunched service operations on 11-Jul-2017 with Kuwait-Tbilisi service using A320 aircraft.

Wataniya Airways suspended operations on 04-Sep-2018 due to "unexpected and unavoidable circumstances". Kuwait's Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) suspended Wataniya Airways' operating permit for three months on 05-Sep-2018, after the airline failed to meet a deadline to overhaul operations. Kuwait's DGCA cancelled the AOC for Wataniya Airways on 07-Dec-2018.
