US DoT Director of International Aviation Brian Hedberg discusses the progress of talks between the US and the UK to create an air services agreement after Brexit, low cost competition in trans-Atlantic and US airline foreign ownership.

Brian HedbergSo right now, we're looking for how to develop out air service relationship with the UK after it leaves the US-EU air service agreement. So there's a lot of things up in the air. But we've had one very good round of talks, and we'll keep moving forward. Because we want a solution that benefits all of our stake holders.
It's been the position of the department in the past that having competition in the market is important. And if you look at the decisions on joint ventures, they've talked about that before. It'll just be interesting to see how the market develops, because we've seen a lot of entry in the market lately and continuing.
Well I don't have that crystal ball. But as a regulatory entity, we foll the rules that Congress puts forward. They pass the laws and we implement them. And I don't know where we'll see that go with Congress.
