Delta Airlines Update

Delta Air Lines General Counsel Peter Carter on the company's continued push on the Gulf subsidy debate and the timing for adoption of a new US-Mexico air services agreement.

Transcript

Peter Carter:I understand that the Mexican Senate is actually currently considering the bilateral, and we understand from our friends in Mexico that it should be adopted in the month of April. So we're hoping for the best. You know, we have not been as actively focused on the Ex-Im Bank issues in Washington because of FAA authorization issues. My understanding is today they are short a board member, and so that's currently the status. And as a result, they cannot approve loans that are in excess of $10 million, which, you know, from my perspective, means that Ex-Im is now being used for the purpose that it was set up for, namely to help small businesses. But we have not otherwise been actively engaged on that issue. You know, I just don't know. We are the subjects of their questions, and we obviously fully cooperate with that process. You know, to be clear, there is no collusion in the U.S. industry. We are staunch competitors. My hope is that in the very near future, the government would tell us that their investigation is closed. But we just don't know. Well, I will tell you that this is an issue that we are firmly committed to and that we will not go away on. We will continue to make sure that if this administration does not address it, that we raise it to the next administration. The coalition is strong. The coalition between ourselves and United and American and our labor— 5 labor unions. So we will continue to push this forward no matter who is president.
