US airports given green light for peak time charging. Airlines not impressed
US airports have gained unprecedented flexibility in setting their charges, with the introduction of so-called "market measures" by the US Department of Transportation to help ease congestion at US airports. Effective immediately, overcrowded airports will be able to move away from the "decades-old practice of charging aircraft landing fees based simply on the weight of the plane, instead having the flexibility to vary charges based on time of day", according to the DoT.
