Tiger Airways offers free tickets to 7 destinations for limited period

Analysis

SINGAPORE (XFNews) - Tiger Airways said it is offering free tickets to seven destinations to mark its move to a new budget terminal next month.

Beginning Friday, it is taking bookings for free seats between Singapore and Krabi, Hat Yai and Phuket in Thailand; Padang on the Indonesian island of Sumatra; Vietnam's capital Hanoi as well as Danang; and Darwin in Australia, it said.

Booking continues over the weekend until Monday at the airline's website on a first-come, first-served basis, said Tiger Airways CEO Tony Davis.

The free tickets are for travel between March 26, when the new budget terminal is to open, and April 30.

Tiger Airways, which is 49 pct owned by Singapore Airlines Ltd, is the only carrier to confirm it will operate from Changi Airport's new Budget Terminal.

Malaysian officials and Malaysian-based budget carrier AirAsia have said operations will begin in early March at a Kuala Lumpur budget terminal that will be the first dedicated facility of its kind in the region, ahead of Singapore's.

Tiger Airways flies to a total of 13 cities in the region.
