Taiwan, Japan expand air capacity

Analysis

TAIPEI (XFNews) - Taiwan and Japan will raise caps on capacity for passenger and cargo flights between the two countries, the Economic Daily News reported.

The newspaper cited unnamed officials from Taiwan's Civil Aeronautics Administration at the Ministry of Transportation and Communications as saying the revision to an air accord raises passenger route capacity by 43 pct and cargo flight capacity by 50 pct.

The revisions also allow China Airlines (2610.TW) and EVA Airways Corp (2618.TW) to open new Japan-bound routes.

Taiwan last year attracted 1.1 mln Japanese tourists while Japan attracted 1.3 mln Taiwanese tourists, the daily quoted unnamed industry source as saying.
