Sun Country Airlines signs with ARINC; also saves networking costs

Analysis

ANNAPOLIS (ARINC) - ARINC Incorporated today announced a long-term extension of its data link communications contract with customer Sun Country Airlines. The renewal was awarded in competitive bidding.

ARINC will continue to provide the Minneapolis-based carrier with its industry-leading data link service, GLOBALinkSM VHF, including VDL Mode 2 service for Sun Country's VDL-equipped airframes.

ARINC also announced it has helped Sun Country reduce ground data networking costs by replacing the carrier's dedicated line with a lower-cost IP network solution. The new connection will carry data for reservations, flight plans, and air-ground messages.

"When we evaluated our datalink options, we chose ARINC for three primary reasons," stated Steve Dykhuizen, Chief Aircraft Dispatcher and Derik Boucher, Avionics Engineer for Sun Country. "First, their quality of service is outstanding-very important to running a successful ACARS program. Second, they provide superb technical support and have helped us implement and troubleshoot many applications. And third, their offer-covering both air/ground services and network connectivity-was extremely competitive."

ARINC replaced Sun Country's dedicated wide-area network connection with new ARINC AviNet® MQ-over-InternetSM technology, for an expected 50% saving in monthly connection charges.

"Like other airlines with extensive charter operations, Sun Country does not need a fully-managed private network connection to deliver air-ground traffic, reservations and flight plans," stated Dan Shea, Director, Sales and Marketing. "We were able to show them a functionally equivalent service for about half the cost. MQ-over-Internet is a secure-socket-layer Internet connection, which ARINC will monitor actively from its 24x7 network operations center."
