USD415 billion airport investment and construction pipeline; USD6.5 billion Istanbul the biggest

As of May-2014, there is airport construction activity globally to the value of approximately USD415 billion according to the CAPA Airport Construction and CapEx database.
While the majority of this expenditure is on projects at existing airports - typically new or extended runways and new or expanded passenger terminals - the pipeline for entirely new airport developments is impressive. Expenditure on new airport facilities globally, either actual or planned and in the main smaller secondary level airports, currently runs to USD70 billion and this is spread across 229 airports on all continents.
