Galaxy Airlines takes delivery of its first Airbus A300-600F

Toulouse (AIRBUS) - Galaxy Airlines Co. Ltd., 100 percent subsidiary of Sagawa Express Co. Ltd, one of the largest cargo business companies in Japan, took delivery of the first Airbus A300-600F freighter today in Toulouse, France. With the acquisition of its own freighter, Sagawa intends to offer lower fares than those of the existing air transport services, while promising a next-day delivery service to distant destinations to and from Tokyo.

This delivery adds to Galaxy Airlines' existing converted A300-600F which has been in operation since October 31st 2006.

Airbus Chief Operating Officer Customers John Leahy, said: "We are extremely pleased that Galaxy Airlines is joining our list of airline operators in Japan. Compared with its competition, A300-600F has a wider fuselage, and this order is an endorsement of the strength of the Airbus freighter product line. We are delighted to have the A300-600F play such a major role in SagawaÕs airfreight transport business."

Galaxy's A300-600F has a payload capacity of 48 tonnes of cargo, with a range of up to 4,900 km. It is one of the industry's best-selling freighter types in this class, with a total of 103 orders and commitments received from customers including UPS, FedEx and Air Hong Kong.

A300-600F provides spacious lower-deck holds capable of accommodating the industry-standard LD3 containers side-by-side, as well as a voluminous main deck with excellent cargo capacity.

Headquartered in Kyoto, Japan, Sagawa Express is one of the largest cargo companies in Japan. Established in 1957, the Japanese company now has 31,737 employees and 20,202 delivery vehicles. Sales in 2005 were more than 750 billion Japanese yen. Sagawa has an extensive transport network inside and outside of Japan, with 347 branch offices nationwide and 21 local offices abroad.
