European airlines FY international traffic up 6.3 pct year-on-year

BRUSSELS (XFNews) - European airlines' total international traffic for the full year 2005 rose 6.3 pct year-on-year, the Association of European Airlines said.

Traffic in North America grew by 2.1 pct and Far East traffic was up by 12.2 pct.

The AEA said traffic growth in Europe was up 4.1 pct.

The association said the overall full year figure was the closest the industry has got to "normal" market growth levels since the US terror attacks in 2001.

It added that the "booming" markets of India and China are driving growth in the Far East region.

The AEA also said the preliminary operating profit for its 30 members in the full year reached 800 mln usd, 'doubling' the 2004 result.
