An IPO for Qatar Airways by 2012?
Qatar Airways confirmed its intention to become wholly government owned by the end of 2009 or early 2010, clearing the way for a full privatisation of the carrier, with a target date between 2012 and 2014. The carrier is currently 50% owned by the Qatar Government and 50% owned by private Qatari interests. The company was founded as a private carrier in 1993, but was restructured in the late 1990s, bringing in government ownership and Akbar Al Baker as CEO.
