American Airlines to keep American Eagle flying

Analysis

American Eagle will not spin off its American Eagle regional unit in response to higher fuel costs but is continuing to evaluate the future of the unit. American Eagle operates 95% of American's regional services, with a mixed fleet of 274 aircraft, comprised of ATR72 turboprops and Bombardier and Embraer regional jets.

Last week, American Airlines and American Eagle had to cancel more than 600 services due to two days of dust storms in Texas.

In the US, shares in some of the largest carrier finished lower at the end of the week. New York-based LCC JetBlue and Hawaiian Airlines both had stronger days.

Selected Americas share price movements (% change): 27-May-2011
