Norwegian and Aer Lingus up on July traffic results; Finnair slumps

Analysis

Finnair (-3.7%) and El Al (-2.0%) shares lost the most ground among the major carriers on Monday (10-Aug-09), with Ryanair (-1.4%) and British Airways (-1.3%) also weaker.

Among the gainers, Norwegian soared 7.2%, following Friday's 2.2% gain. The LCC reported improved yields in Jul-2009, of 4% year-on-year, with unit revenue also improving 6%, as the carrier increased its load factors by 1 ppt to 88% and passenger numbers by 16%.

Aer Lingus' shares were also stronger yesterday, rising 1.6%, as the carrier reported an 8.2% year-on-year improvement in Jul-2009 passenger numbers. Load factors, however, slipped 1.0 ppt, although remained above 80% at 82.3%, driven by strong short-haul load factors (+0.4 ppts to 85.6%).

Also gaining marginally was Air France-KLM (+0.4%) and Lufthansa (+0.1%).
