New airport hotel planned at Munich Airport

Analysis

Munich Airport has laid the cornerstone for a new airport hotel,

with Novotel submitting the winning bid for the airport’s second hotel.

The "3-plus star" hotel, with a total of 250 rooms, is slated to open

in Autumn 2009 and will complement existing hotel accommodation and services

offered by the 5-star Kempinski Hotel Airport Munich, located between Terminals

1 & 2. The start of construction is scheduled for early 2008, with total

investment expected to be approximately EUR27 million.

The new hotel will be constructed on a 10,000-square metre site on the P41 South long-term car park in the Northwestern section of the airport property, directly adjacent to the central access road. Shuttle bus service will be available to transport hotel guests to/from both airport terminals and Munich Airport's Central Area in just a few minutes.

The Munich Airport operating company, Flughafen München GmbH, is developing the new hotel in response to increased demand for on-site hotel accommodation, due to continued strong passenger growth. The hotel will be priced to appeal to a mixed target market of business and non-business travellers, particularly families.

The building will have a 56 x 56 meter foundation and will be just over 19 meters tall. The renowned architects firm, Gewers, Kühn + Kühn, will be in charge of general planning for the new hotel.
