Hong Kong's Cathay Pacific, Dragonair June passenger traffic up 1.9 pct yr-on-yr

Hong Kong (XFN-ASIA) - Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd said it and

unit Dragonair carried a combined 1.88 mln passengers in June, up 1.9 pct from

the same month last year.

However, passenger load factor dipped by 0.1 percentage point to 81 pct during the month, the airline said in a statement.

In the January-June period, Cathay Pacific and Dragonair carried 10.96 mln passengers, up 1.3 pct from a year earlier, while capacity has grown by 1.6 pct.

The two airlines carried a combined 129,169 tons of cargo in June, up 1.3 pct over the same month a year earlier, according to the statement.

For the first half, the tonnage eased by 0.4 pct to 757,600 tons against the same period last year, while capacity was up by 4.6 pct, the airline said.

Ian Shiu, Cathay Pacific's general manager for revenue management, sales & distribution, said passenger load factor fell marginally in the build up to the summer holiday season.

"Corporate demand remains high and we expect the leisure segment to be very strong in the peak holiday months of July and August for both Cathay Pacific and Dragonair," he said.
