Delta forecasts quick recovery for Japan

Delta Air Lines has reported its Asia Pacific traffic dipped 25% year-on-year in Mar-2011, but President Ed Bastien has forecast a fast recovery. Mr Bastien believes Japan will "bounce back faster than people anticipate" and that Delta is "well-positioned as an airline and an industry to help them".

Delta shares were 1.2% lower on Monday, on a mixed day in trading for North American and Latin American airline shares. US cargo carrier Atlas Air finished 3.2% lower, which Republic Airways also had a weaker day. Latin American airlines GOL, TAM, Copa Airlines and LAN Airlines were all weaker.

Pinnacle Airlines Corp reported the following traffic highlights for its subsidiaries in Mar-2011:

  • Passenger numbers: 1.8 million, +48.1% year-on-year;
    • Load factor: 73.3%, -3.4 ppts;
    • Departures: 47,328, +44.6%;
  • Fleet:
    • CRJ-200: 145;
    • CRJ-900: 57;
    • Q400: 28;
    • SAAB 340: 60.
