CAPA AeroPark advances launch of Bangalore aviation training campus in response to strong demand

Analysis

CAPA AeroPark, a world first aviation university and training campus being developed in India, today announced plans to bring forward its launch date in response to calls from the industry.

Peter Harbison, Chairman, CAPA AeroPark stated that, "Since we announced in November 2010 that CAPA and SCDC had entered into a US$125 million JV to establish CAPA AeroPark, the response from airlines and airports has been overwhelming. There is quite clearly an urgent need for training to support the 20% market growth being achieved in India."

CAPA AeroPark will service training needs for India, the Middle East and Asia and is projected to handle more than 10,000 students per annum by 2015.

Mr Harbison added, "Aside from civil aviation requirements, announcements at Aero India 2011 have clearly demonstrated huge potential in the aerospace sector, in both research and manufacturing. But this requires a skilled workforce with specialist education and expertise. CAPA AeroPark will enable the emergence of these new industries in India, resulting in a significant positive contribution to economic development."

CAPA AeroPark will establish satellite academies in New Delhi and Mumbai by the end of 2011. The flagship campus on a 50 acre greenfield site off Sarjapur Road, Bangalore will be ready to receive students by late 2012. However, due to stronger than expected market conditions, the project will now see the addition of a new, state-of-the-art urban campus in Bangalore, set to open by September 2011.

"With our partners, SCDC, we are delighted to have secured a premium grade commercial development for CAPA AeroPark, in the prestigious Whitefield district of Bangalore, which offers up to 300,000 square feet of built-up area with further room for expansion. Construction is nearing completion and we will shortly commence the internal fit-out to meet the specifications of an international standard aviation training centre," commented Mr. Harbison.

The Whitefield campus will offer a comprehensive range of vocational and academic courses for pilots, engineers, cabin crew, management, air traffic controllers and regulators. It will host not only computer-based classrooms, libraries and workshops but plans include setting-up India's most comprehensive Safety and Emergency Procedures Centre. The world's leading aviation education and training providers have already committed to partner with CAPA AeroPark.

Meanwhile, locations for the satellite academies in New Delhi and Mumbai have been shortlisted and the greenfield 50 acre site in Bangalore is being prepared for development.

Mr. K.N.Balasubramanyam, Chairman of the substantial Bangalore-based SCDC Group stated that, "we are very excited to fast-track the opening of CAPA AeroPark at Whitefield in Bangalore, while continuing with our vision to develop a fully integrated greenfield campus off Sarjapur Road. This initiative is a clear demonstration of our commitment to delivering and responding to industry requirements."
