All Nippon Airways commences B787 pilot training
All Nippon Airways (ANA) and Boeing have confirmed the commencement of B787 pilot training ahead of the delivery of the first aircraft to the Japanese airline in 3Q2011.
Ten pilots from ANA, the launch customer of the B787, began the training programme with classroom instructions in Tokyo earlier this month. Training on simulation devices began on 23-Apr-2011 at the Boeing Flight Services training campus in Seattle. With the B787 pilot training courses, pilots can transition to the new aircraft in five to 20 days, depending on pilot experience. B777 pilots can qualify to fly the B787 in as little as five days, given the high level of commonality between the two types. Boeing has installed a network of eight B787 training suites at five global campuses: Seattle, Singapore, Tokyo, London Gatwick and Shanghai.
Asia Pacific airline stocks were mixed yesterday. ANA and Skymark both dropped 0.9%, while Chinese airline shares advanced, led by China Southern (+2.9%).
