Accelerating the development of New Doha International Airport

Premium Analysis

The Qatar Civil Aviation Authority confirmed in late Oct-2009 that the New Doha International Airport would be ready for operation in Jul-2011, as the airport completes construction in early 2011, after merging both Phase I and Phase II development into each other. The catalyst for the development at the airport has been the continued strong growth of traffic into the existing Doha International Airport, led by Qatar Airways, which aims to increase its passenger traffic at close to 20% this year, despite the global downturn.
