International pax to/from Australia up 8% to 2.5 million in Mar-2013
Australia's Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Economics (BITRE) reports (31-May-2013) the following international traffic highlights to/from Australia in Mar-2013:
- Passenger numbers: 2.5 million, +7.6% year-on-year;
- Available seats: 3.4 million, +8.2%;
- Flights: 13,723, +6.5%;
- Cargo volume: 76,871 tonnes, +2.1%;
- Aircraft movements: 14,417, +6.2%;
- Top 10 international carriers:
- Share of passengers carried:
- Qantas: 17.6%, -1.4 ppts;
- Singapore Airlines: 9.0%, -0.1 ppt;
- Emirates: 8.9%, +0.6 ppt;
- Air New Zealand: 8.6%, stable;
- Jetstar: 8.0%, -0.5 ppt;
- Virgin Australia: 7.5%, -0.6 ppt;
- Cathay Pacific: 4.6%, -0.6 ppt;
- Malaysia Airlines: 3.8%, stable;
- Thai Airways: 3.2%, +0.1 ppt;
- AirAsia X: 2.8%, +0.5 ppt;
- Share of cargo carried:
- Singapore Airlines: 16%, +1.6 ppts;
- Qantas: 15%, -3.8 ppts;
- Emirates: 12.8%, +0.9 ppt;
- Cathay Pacific: 7.9%, -0.8 ppt;
- Malaysia Airlines: 5.2%, -0.2 ppt;
- Thai Airways: 5.1%, +0.4 ppt;
- Air New Zealand: 4.9%, +0.1 ppt;
- Etihad Airways: 3.0%, stable;
- UPS: 2.7%, -0.2 ppt;
- Jetstar: 2.6%, -0.3 ppt.
BITRE also reported (31-May-2013) low cost carriers (LCCs) AirAsia X, Indonesia AirAsia, Jetstar, Jetstar Asia, Tiger Airways and Scoot accounted for 13.7% of total international passenger traffic to/from Australia in Mar-2013. The LCC share in Mar-2012 was 12.5%. [more - original PR]
