International pax to/from Australia up 3% in Apr-2013
Australia's Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Economics (BITRE) reports (28-Jun-2013) the following international traffic highlights to/from Australia in Apr-2013:
- Passenger numbers: 2.5 million, +3.1% year-on-year;
- Available seats: 3.4 million, +6.4%;
- Flights: 13,465, +5.2%;
- Cargo volume: 69,534 tonnes, +3.6%;
- Aircraft movements: 14,087, +3.5%;
- Top 10 international carriers:
- Share of passengers carried:
- Qantas: 17.2%, -1.5 ppts;
- Emirates: 9.4%, +0.8 ppt;
- Singapore Airlines: 9.1%, -0.4 ppt;
- Air New Zealand: 8.3%, +0.1 ppt;
- Jetstar: 8.0%, +0.1 ppt;
- Virgin Australia: 7.6%, -0.4 ppt;
- Cathay Pacific: 4.6%, -0.8 ppt;
- Malaysia Airlines: 4.0%, +0.2 ppt;
- Thai Airways: 3.3%, stable;
- AirAsia X: 2.9%, +0.1 ppt;
- Share of cargo carried:
- Singapore Airlines: 15.7%, +1.1 ppts;
- Qantas: 14.4%, -2.8 ppts;
- Emirates: 12%, -0.2 ppt;
- Cathay Pacific: 7.6%, -1.4 ppts;

BITRE also reported (28-Jun-2013) low cost carriers (LCCs) AirAsia X, Indonesia AirAsia, Jetstar, Jetstar Asia, Tiger Airways and Scoot accounted for 14.2% of total international passenger traffic to/from Australia in Apr-2013. LCC share in Apr-2012 was 12.6%.
