Aegean Airlines to expand Larnaca base in summer 2015

Aegean Airlines announced (13-Jan-2015) plans to increase the size of its base at Larnaca Airport in summer 2015, with four based A320 aircraft to operate to 14 destinations from the airport - see Route Changes Table for more information:

  • Larnaca-Athens: Up to six times daily service. Cyprus Airways also operated on the route before suspending operations on 09-Jan-2015;
  • Larnaca-Beirut: Four times weekly service, subject to regulatory approval. Middle East Airlines also operates on the route, with Cyprus Airways also having operated on the route;
  • Larnaca-Heraklion: Three times weekly service to launch on 31-Mar-2015. The carrier will be the route's only operator;
  • Larnaca-Kiev Zhuliany: Three times weekly service to launch on 31-Mar-2015, subject to regulatory approval. Ukraine International Airlines and Wizz Air Ukraine also operate between Larnaca and Kiev;
  • Larnaca-London Heathrow: Seven times weekly service to launch on 29-Mar-2015. British Airways, easyJet and Norwegian also operate between Larnaca and London, with Monarch Airlines and Thomson Airways to launch service in summer 2015. Cyprus Airways also operated on the route;
  • Larnaca-Milan Malpensa: Twice weekly service to launch on 01-Apr-2015. easyJet also operates on the route;
  • Larnaca-Munich: Twice weekly service to launch on 01-Apr-2015. Lufthansa also operates on the route, with Germania to launch service in summer 2015;
  • Larnaca-Mykonos: Seasonal twice weekly service. The carrier will be the route's only operator;
  • Larnaca-Paris CDG: Three times weekly service to launch on 04-Apr-2015. Cyprus Airways was the route's only operator;
  • Larnaca-Rome: Twice weekly service to launch on 29-Mar-2015. Vueling will also operate on the route in summer 2015;
  • Larnaca-Rhodes: Twice weekly service to launch on 15-Jun-2015. The carrier will be the route's only operator;
  • Larnaca-Santorini: Seasonal twice weekly service. The carrier will be the route's only operator;
  • Larnaca-Tel Aviv: Seven times weekly service to launch on 29-Mar-2015, subject to regulatory approval. Arkia Israeli Airlines and El Al also operate on the route. Cyprus Airways operated on the route;
  • Larnaca-Thessaloniki: 11 times weekly service. Cyprus Airways also operated on the route.

The carrier also plans to operate a four times weekly Athens-Paphos.

The announcement represents a year-on-year capacity increase of 1.5 million seats. Aegean Airlines also announced it will honour miles for Elite members of Cyprus Airways' FFP who elect to join Aegean's FFP. The carrier will also offer 50% additional miles on all services to and from Cyprus in 2015. Aegean Airlines vice-chairman Eftichios Vasilakis said: "We would like to thank our passengers from Cyprus for their support during our 10-year presence here. We reciprocate your trust with a major investment: 4 new aircraft to cover 14 destinations in total with 1.5 million available seats per year from Cyprus.
