Thai Airways' subsidiary is looking at managing airports in Southeast Asia
SYDNEY (Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation) - Thai Airways confirmed interest in managing provincial airports in Krabi, Surat Thani and Chumphon, as well as small and medium-sized airports in Nepal, Bhutan, Burma, India, the Philippines and Indonesia.
The airline has established a subsidiary, Thai Airport Management Co, with registered capital of THB100 million, to pursue new opportunities. The carrier signed a ten-year contract in Feb-05 to manage Chittagong International Airport in Bangladesh.
''We will start off by being the provider of airport-management service and, if opportunities arise, we could become a part owner in those airports,'' Poonsak Chumchuay, Director - Thai Airport Management Co, Thai Airways.
