The Tribhuvan International Airport is the only international airport serving Nepal and is frequented by a number of Asian and Middle Eastern carriers. Nepal Airlines, formerly known as Royal Nepal Airlines, is the country’s flag carrier based at Tribhuvan and operates both domestic and international services. Buddha Air is also based at Kathmandu. The Tenzing-Hillary (Lukla) Airport is the gateway for climbers of Mt Everest. Responsibility for oversight and regulation of aviation in the country falls to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal.
