Sólyom Hungarian Airways

Full Service Carrier
Failed to Launch
IATA: n/a
ICAO: HUN

About

Sólyom Hungarian Airways was a Hungarian start-up that had previously planned to commence services with six aircraft in 2013. The carrier positioned itself as the new national airline and successor to former flag carrier Malév Hungarian Airlines, though did not receive state investment. Instead the carrier said that it had the financial backing of Middle East investors. In Oct-2013 Sólyom Hungarian Airways suspended operations after it failed to agree on terms with its investors.

In Mar-2014, the carrier announced it still plans to launch operations in 2015, under a revised business strategy. It outlined plans to obtain an AOC, provide services to the ad-hoc charter market, and engage in sourcing investor capital. Since 2014, reports on the proposed carrier have been sparse. The website remains active but still states 2015 as the proposed launch date.
