Worldwide protest by United Flight Attendants for overdue pay

United Airlines flight attendants, represented by the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA, AFL-CIO (AFA-CWA), announced (05-Apr-2010) plans to commence a worldwide protest on 06-Apr-2010 following United Airlines' failure to renegotiate a new contract before the 07-Jan-2010 amendable date. [more] United stated it would propose to bring its flight attendants up to the pay scale of their counterparts at Continental Airlines, in exchange for changes in work rules (including more flexibility over which hotels flight attendants stay at, and reductions in benefits earned by flight attendants who trade away flying time) (AP, 05-Apr-2010). The carrier stated this would result in some experienced flight attendants obtaining pay raises of more than 10%. Negotiations for a new contract commenced a year ago, with United still to make a formal wage proposal.
