WestJet previously argued Canada’s regulatory and user-pay framework inflated costs, citing a 68% rise in government and infrastructure-induced taxes and fees since 1994 and up to CAD100 in taxes and fees on a single ticket, which it said reduced route viability and affordability.1 WestJet also called for a comprehensive review of the user-pay system, an immediate freeze on mandatory government fees and an end to federal airport rent collection.2
