Vienna Airport reports 8% fall in 2009 pax numbers

Austria's Vienna International Airport reports (19-Jan-20109) the following traffic highlights in 2009:

  • Passenger numbers: 18.1 million, -8.3% year-on-year;
  • Cargo volume: 185,724 tonnes, -0.8%;
  • Aircraft movements: 243,430, -8.6%.

Vienna Airport: "2009 was a difficult year for the aviation industry, and Vienna International Airport was unable to detach from these developments... However, this downward trend now appears to have bottomed out and we expect an increase of 2.0% in passenger volume for the coming year. We see good opportunities for long-term growth - and Vienna International Airport is well positioned to utilise these opportunities with an ideal geographic position as a hub to Eastern Europe and the Middle East" Herbert Kaufmann, Speaker of the Management Board of Flughafen Wien AG.
