Boeing previously sought a US Department of Transportation emissions exemption to keep selling 777Fs beyond 31-Dec-2027, warning the type would be ineligible for a Certificate of Airworthiness from 01-Jan-2028 under fuel-efficiency limits, and it requested authority to manufacture 35 additional aircraft until 777-8F entry into service.1 The US FAA's fuel-efficiency certification rule for post-01-Jan-2028 production was finalised, and it applied to new aircraft including 777X variants.2
