United and Continental announce new leadership team

Continental Airlines and United Airlines announced (27-Jul-2010) its new senior leadership team of the combined airline. Jeff Smisek of Continental will serve as President and CEO. Glenn Tilton, Chairman and CEO of United, will serve as non-executive Chairman of the combined airline. United President, John Tague, and CFO, Kathryn Mikells, will leave the company following the close of the merger. The merged executive team will comprise:

  • Mike Bonds (Continental): human resources and labour relations;
  • Jim Compton (Continental): chief marketing officer;
  • Jeff Foland (United): loyalty programme;
  • Nene Foxhall (Continental): communications and government affairs;
  • Keith Halbert (United): chief information officer;
  • Pete McDonald (United): chief operations officer;
  • Zane Rowe (Continental): chief financial officer;
  • Tom Sabatino (United): general counsel.

Concurrently, the companies are developing a talent-selection process for other management and clerical roles and refining the planned organisational structure.
